STATS’ football data coverage has been upgraded for the 2016/17 season with the creation of our Tier 6+ dataset. STATS now provides the most in-match data points live, while maintaining the highest level of accuracy, to clubs and media. In addition, our data will be enhanced post-game with additional data points added to the data as accuracy is ensured.
STATS live Tier 6+ data will contain more than 2,700 separate events and 500 calculated statistics. Touches were previously provided on an individual player possession basis; however, every touch of the ball will now be recorded live during the game – all with X/Y coordinates and timestamps. This allows for positional accuracy of every event that happens during a game, tracking a player’s movement when he is in possession of the ball.
The post-game data is enhanced to ensure STATS Tier 6+ dataset is the most accurate available. Additional data points and details are added to even the basic events like shots and passes, with the body orientation of the player included, as touches, tackles, blocks, duels, and dribbles, among others, are all coded in with added elements.
Positional data is also added for goalkeepers and referees, as their locations for events are detailed with X/Y coordinates. For example, this means that a referee’s location for fouls will be included during the post-game augmentation, as will a goalkeeper’s position when a shot is attempted.
Tier 6+ data is available for the World Cup, Champions League, and the big five leagues in Europe, but our coverage does not stop there. The following competitions are covered at Tier 6+ going forward, as we’ll continue to add to this in the future:
