Stats Perform is delighted to announce that Tranmere Rovers Manager, Micky Mellon, will participate in a Q&A session with the 300 delegates attending next month’s Pro Forum at 30 Euston Square in London.
Following a sixteen year professional playing career, Mellon has gone on to take charge of over 600 matches since first entering first-team management with Fleetwood Town in 2008. At Fleetwood he secured two promotions, helping the club secure Football League status for the first time in their history, with future England forward Jamie Vardy leading the line.
Following a spell as Assistant Manager at Barnsley, he has gone on to manage three other clubs across the EFL and SPL, during which time he has achieved a further three promotions. The first of these came in 2014-15, when he led Shrewsbury Town to an immediate return to League One before helping the Shrews retain their third-tier status the following season. He then led Tranmere to back-to-back promotions in 2017-2018 and 2018-2019, before returning to Prenton Park for a second spell in charge last summer.
Mellon has used his experiences in management to co-write a book, with Phil Denton, titled The First 100 Days: Lessons In Leadership From The Football Bosses. Published last year, the book sees the pair speak to leading managers, including current Premier League bosses David Moyes and Sean Dyche, together with experts across various different fields to contemplate the psychological, sociological and philosophical elements that go into making a successful leader.
During the Q&A, Mellon will use his experiences of management to discuss a wide-range of topics, including how Tranmere are currently utilising data and analytics to support processes around the first-team.
Commenting on his involvement with the Forum, Mellon said:
“This will be the first time I have attended the Forum, which I know has a reputation for being one of the biggest events of its kind in the world. I am looking forward to taking part in an honest discussion around the use of data in informing decision making, building relationships and to help influence performance on the pitch.
“I am also looking forward to seeing the other presentations. After spending a lot of time speaking to different experts about how leaders can tap into a wide-range of different skills and insights, it will be interesting to see how different people, working outside of football, approach challenges around understanding performance and consider how they could be applied in a real-life setting.”
