Recently re-crowned Brasileirão Série A champions, Palmeiras, are looking to get another step ahead of their rivals after announcing a new agreement to use Opta Vision to support the club’s high-performance analysis and global player recruitment operations.
Launched in 2023, Opta Vision is making professional football teams around the world more competitive, on and off the pitch, by delivering previously unobtainable but critical insights into player performance and opposition tactics.
WHAt is opta vision?
The AI-enriched Opta Vision metrics will enable Palmeiras’ data science department to go further in supporting their technical staff, performance and market analysis, through the application of new predictive metrics that better quantify a player’s on-ball decision-making and add critical context to their general performance.
They will also be able to use Opta Vision’s aggregated fitness data to assess the in-game physical performance of players against KPIs relevant to each on-field role within their game model.
These metrics, together with multiple new team level insights, will also enable the club’s first-team performance analysts to undertake deeper and predictive analysis of every opponent throughout the campaign.
ProVision solution, where key performance tendencies, strengths and weaknesses, derived from Opta Vision can be used to inform game plans and present insights to players via various visualisations, will facilitate this deeper analysis.
As well as providing performance solutions to support the club’s technical staff, the agreement will also see Opta data used by the club’s in-house media department to engage with the club’s global fanbase of over 20 million supporters. Data will be used to power various features on the club’s official website, as well as via the club’s official fan app.
Palmeiras Football Manager, Cícero Souza:
“For our club, it is vitally important that our technical departments have access to the most optimal solutions to successfully execute day-to-day tasks which help support performance on the pitch. Having carefully evaluated the solutions available, it was clear that the combination of Opta Vision and ProVision offers us the best long-term package to help us achieve our key objectives.”
Stats Perform Chief Revenue Officer, Steve Xeller:
“We are very happy that Palmeiras have become the first South American club to recognise the significant benefits offered by Opta Vision. I am looking forward to working closely with them in the coming months to ensure they can successfully implement the AI-enriched metrics into their key workflows and have a measurable impact going into 2024 and beyond.”
Palmeiras join elite clubs in the Premier League, La Liga, Ligue 1, Serie A, Eredivisie and MLS, as well as several international teams, who have started using Opta Vision data since its launch in 2023.
